APRIL CAMP NANO 2024 Update

Hello all!

Happy New Year, Happy Spring, and Happy Camp Nano!

I haven’t felt much like writing but maybe that’s because this year has gone well so far. I’m pleased to say I’m making progress. If that turns into not updating here as often, you’ll know it’s a good sign.

TDG, or NOVEL 3, is currently in draft 4 and with the Developmental Editor. I plan to work on it more for JULY CAMP NANO after I get those editing notes back. For now, I’m starting a new project at a new time of year.

APRIL CAMP NANO is a new project, but an old idea. If you remember the notebook challenge I did in November of 2023, you know I mined my old notebooks for ideas. Well, one of them caught and I’m embarking on a ZERO DRAFT this month. Wish me luck.

NANOWRIMO 2023: WEEK 4

This was a rough week for a number of reasons. The holiday, extra dogsitting, and two extra (paid) writing projects. Obviously, something had to give, and this week that was Nano, unfortunately. I’m still in a place where I could win, so keep going, wherever you are. Remember you had 0 words at the beginning and now look what you have!

DAY 19: no words

DAY 20: no words

DAY 21: 4,367, which just goes to show that when I sit down and do a thing, I can do a lot. Hit 30K!

DAY 22: 162

DAY 23: no words. It was Thanksgiving and I had been working really hard on my other writing projects, so I gave myself the day off.

DAY 24: 2,224 Woohoo!

DAY 25: no words

Don’t forget the CREATIVE COLLECTIVE, open to all THURSDAY THE 30th. Message me for the ZOOM link.

NANOWRIMO 2023: WEEK 2

It’s been hard to talk about the process and my story because they are both kind of off the rails. Usually, when I hit a snag I free-write or type whatever comes to mind, and while I’ve done some of that, I’ve been trying to stay on topic for most of this project. It’s been harder and the words haven’t been flowing as freely.

DAY 6: a slow day for writing, but I still managed 1,121

DAY 7: 1,981 words during the live stream…almost made it to 2k

DAY 8: Buffer Day but still crossed 2k at 2,002

DAY 9: I hit the dreaded “muddy middle” but still managed 797

DAY 10: I rocked it with 2,074. The stream helped

DAY 11: My intention was to hit 20k and I just missed it.

I’m getting my stickers caught up and trying to rally for the end of the month. How do you get through the muddy middle?

Join the Creative Collective this month for two special Nanowrimo-themed check-ins. All are welcome. Message me for the ZOOM link.

PREPTOBER 2023: Ready…Set…

I’m so ready.

I’m still slogging through PREPTOBER resources and NANOWRIMO prep materials. I’m doing all the prep I can so that I have no excuse not to write in November. I should have everything researched, thought out, plotted, and planned by midnight on the 31st.

It’s a lot of not-writing that is part of writing

The good news is I’m excited about the writing part; the drafting that comes next and will be part of my life for the 30 days of November.

I’m chomping at the bit for Nanowrimo

I don’t like to wish my life away, but I am ready to write. Sometimes the prep gets boring and I’m ready to dive in. I’m practicing my patience too. What about you? Do you PREPTOBER? What are you doing with your time before November?

Are you writing this year? Friend me on the nano site!

I’m linseyte. [be sure to tell me who you are!]

Need help? I’ve got some open slots in November and I’d love to answer your questions

Did you know I coach newbie writers through making a routine? November is a great time to start. Are you up for the challenge? CONTACT ME to learn more.

That’s all this week…maybe until it starts…we’ll see. Have fun prepping.

Until,

PREPTOBER 2023: Killin’ it

It’s OCTOBER and that means NaNoWriMo PREPtober is here.

Preptober is a time when I get ready to do the hard work of writing a novel in a month for NaNoWriMo.

My Preptober got off to a great start. I’ve already worked my way through one planner. I’ve been using Sarra Cannon’s Preptober Planners for a couple of years now, and I think they’re comprehensive without being overly complicated. Check out her YouTube Channel and mailing list to get them.

I had two story ideas, so I decided to combine them. It’s not that they’re exact opposites, but they both involve created worlds that I think I can manage to sew together. What will happen? Maybe a pile of junk. Maybe nothing. We’ll see.

Next, I’m working on the Character Questionnaires, which, I think, are the worst part of prepping yet the most helpful when I’m stuck in the writing phase. I have 8 characters I’m prepping so that could take a while. CONTACT ME for a copy.

As for my goals, I’ve mapped out my NaNoWriMo strategy and I know my working days and times. I think I’m ready.

My favorite parts of Preptober:

  • Downloading a new planner and filling it out.
  • Prepping my time and space to write
  • Mulling over my story idea(s)

My least favorite parts:

  • All the paperwork
  • Waiting for NaNo to begin.

That’s my first Preptober update. Stay tuned for more.

APRIL CAMP NANO UPDATE: Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner.

I did it.

I didn’t write 10,000 new words, but I did work for roughly 8 hours on my current work-in-progress (WIP).

Which means I also won CAMP NANOWRIMO, though I (sheepish shrug) have NOT updated my word count SINCE that stream.

So, have I really won?

WATCH THE REPLAY

As for the WIP, things are going well. If all goes as planned, I will finish the 2nd draft TODAY.

Would you like to read it?

I need beta readers and some editorial input.

Until next week and our final CAMP NANOWRIMO update.

APRIL CAMP NANO UPDATE: Muddy Middle Stream

Somehow it’s the middle of April already. I have progressed, and I’m happy with that progress, but it’s been a bit of a blur.

Did you know I’m doing a 10k stream on Saturday?

It’s on YOUTUBE from 10AM (Central US) until I hit 10K. If you’d like to be part of the stream, let me know.

I’m playing catchup in a different way this week, and I’m looking forward to the designated writing time.

linseyewing youtube banner

I’ve been really busy the past few weeks, so I’m looking forward to the rest and a chance to get back to those projects I’m really excited about. Those would be the courses, short stories, and job hunting.

It can be easy to give up or reschedule your creative time when so much from the outside world is crowding in.

How do you protect your writing time?

I’ve rededicated Tuesday nights and Friday afternoons to my creative work. I want to do more and make more space to grow as an artist. When I can, I will dedicate the full day both days. It’s almost like a week off because the work is so much fun.

Speaking of which, the CREATIVE COLLECTIVE meets again this week. Contact me for the Zoom link.

CURRENT WORD COUNT: 11,246

ppsssssstt…..

Have you read my book?

If not, never fear, I have a PROMO for you. I’m selling my stock (that means order from me directly and pay me shipping) for a reduced price for the entire month of MAY. If you want a paper copy of GOODBYE or LUKE, signed or in bulk, you can purchase them from me for the price of the EBOOK.

That’s roughly 50% off

Let me know how many copies, if and how you want them signed, and where to send them by MAY 31st.

You heard it here first.

APRIL CAMP NANO UPDATE: Goals

It’s that time of year again.

Time to roll up the sleeves and do some writing.

That’s what I’ve decided to do anyway.

CAMP NANOWRIMO is a little more flexible on the goals front, and I started by saying I would edit my short story collection.

Since then, I’ve changed my mind and decided I need to write more. It’s been several months (last November) since I opened the floodgates and let whatever out. This time I am doing so in a controlled environment, i.e., the format of the stories and the time frame of Camp.

In other words, I’m writing whatever comes to mind as much and as often as possible for the next 30 days.

I do hope I come up with something good. Some of the short stories need to be fleshed out. I hope to add roughly 25k to the manuscript. It’s ok if I don’t make it; the point is to do the thing.

At this point, I’m just noodling on ideas, trying to get 1k words a day. I made it on Day 1 and had zero words Day 2. Day 3 I hit 1500 or so and Day 4 so far has a few hundred.

I’m doing things like coming up with last names, filling out the cast of characters and setting notes, and brainstorming plot points. Some of this may end up in the final manuscript as colorful extras, while most of it is probably destined for the trash heap.

I don’t let that discourage me.

It takes lots and lots of words to make a novel-length manuscript. Not all of them are going to make it.

If you want to write with me, check out my YOUTUBE streams on Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings.

I’m also doing a MUDDY MIDDLE stream on April 15th to write 10k in a day.

CURRENT WORD COUNT: 3320

Happy Camping until next week.

Nanowrimo 2022: Final Feels

Overall I feel good about the progress I made.

I started several new projects, and though I have no idea how they will pan out, I have faith the right ones will surface at the right time.

I’m glad I did the notebook challenge for 2 reasons:

  • I have a lot of notebook space.
  • I have a lot of story ideas and a better idea of how much development each of them needs.

If you haven’t joined my email list yet, now is a good time.

I’m making an exciting announcement there first. Head over to the WEBSITE and click the GET ACCESS tab. Enter your email and something about you, and you’re all set to receive news and exclusive offers, not to mention downloadable freebies.

Happy New Year to you and yours. See you next week for the exciting announcement…

Nanowrimo 2022: The Muddy Middle

I’m still doing surprisingly well. For those of you who couldn’t make the live stream, Nina hit her goal early and I hit mine just after the stream ended.

Because of the lengthy stream time this month, I’ve decided to take a break from YouTube after Thanksgiving.

This means we’ll have LIVE@5 tonight (the 15th) and next week (the 22nd if possible) and then be done until 2023.

I’m very excited to share with you what I’ve been working on.

Photo by ahmad syahrir on Pexels.com

In 2023 I’ll be adding a new stream on Friday mornings, new courses online, and a new book out.

It’s going to be a great year.

As for the word count, I am almost to 40k, and I did manage my 10k-day last week. This week I’m taking it easy and reading a lot so I’m hoping for a 10k week instead.

If you have feedback for me or just want to say hi then head to linseyewing.com and contact me.

Happy writing.
