JULY CAMP NANO UPDATE: Week 2, 2024

How’s CAMP NANO going for you? I’m plugging along; not excited about my progress but not discouraged either.

STRUGGLES AND SUCCESSES

It’s been slow going. I am still adding words, but only every few days.

A work project is kicking my tail, but as soon as that is over, I am getting some more words down.

CURRENT NOVEL PROGRESS

Current Word Count: 2,566

I am not worried. I have plenty of time to catch up, and I’m planning to join Nina’s wild word week with a 10k day on JULY 21 (see link below). She’s streaming all that week so be sure to check out her channel for some creative working time.

So far, I’m freewriting notes and filling out character questionnaires. Not my favorite task, but necessary work.

Here I go again. Nothing but a notebook, a blank browser tab, and my imagination.

Fortunately, I’m not alone. Millions of writers around the world are participating in CAMP NANO.

I’m going to write 25,000 words this month. How about you?

NEXT UP: AUGUST is a rest month. I’ve learned that Rest doesn’t mean quitting what I’m doing. It gets that much harder to start again. But I can scale back in the summer and enjoy myself a little more. Maybe I’m just itching to be working on my projects again, and this is the month for that.

Depending on how TDG works in JULY, I’ll make plans for August.

Balancing Work and Play

I have been all work and no play lately. I did manage to sit by the pool and read a bit over the weekend, but the days have been long and kinda brutal.

This too shall pass, I know, but the reality is I need to be better at regulating my time and efforts. All work and no play makes me very dull indeed. I definitely need some playtime, but I’m not sure yet how to get it. With July just around the corner, it feels even more pressing to get some relaxation in before CAMP NANO starts.

Any suggestions? What do you do when you need to play? Let me know in the comments.

TDG PREP BEGINS TONIGHT!

I’m planning to write 25K words in July, and it’s time to get serious about planning.

During my stream tonight (see below) I will start with notecards and post-its and try to generate some ideas for the next stage of writing. Then it’s time to write some backstory, do character questionnaires, and do anything else I can think of before July 1st.

Summer Projects and Camp Nano Prep

Summer days…wow they’ve been busy. Hooray for having plenty to do, but I’m also looking forward to a breather. Sitting by the pool will be a priority over the next few days. I have projects running out of my ears but I am glad to have so many things on my plate. It makes me feel accomplished. Rest is an accomplishment too (especially for an overachiever) so I need to make room for relaxation.

June has two projects in the works and neither is going smoothly. So far between work and other obligations, I haven’t done much prepping for TDG, but I still have some time.

I’m planning to write 25K words in July and if I don’t start some idea generating, I won’t be ready. Fortunately, that’s a pretty low bar to set, so as long as I get back on track I will be happy.

The other project is frustrating because I haven’t received the necessary tools to start.

What’s New and What’s Next @litewings.ink

I’m trying a new format.

STRUGGLES AND SUCCESSES

I got a new job (fun but challenging!), went on vacation (same!), and took a major break from my projects (almost as hard). Whew! It’s a busy Summer already, and we’re just getting started.

I’ve been trying to realign my life and balance the things that belong with the new things that are coming into my orbit. Sadly I had to let go of some of the things I enjoyed, but I am convinced I made the right decisions.

During all the activity, I took May off my writing and organizing projects. I was tempted a time or two, but I managed it. Resting is not easy for me, but it’s essential to the creative process and I respect that. I have some hard work on the horizon and I’m glad I took the time.

June has two major projects but they don’t run concurrently. We shall see how it goes.

CURRENT NOVEL PROGRESS

One of those projects is continuing to work on TDG this month and next month for Camp Nanowrimo.

I still expect to publish in January 2025 so stay tuned for updates.

APRIL CAMP NANO 2O24 UPDATE: The Bitter End

Well, I didn’t hit 50k, but my goal was 30k and I got more than 10k over that, so I’m happy.

APRIL CAMP NANO 2024 UPDATE: Back in the Game

Well. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it.

Then I had a 5k Stream last Tuesday night.

Yes. I wrote over five thousand words in just a couple of hours on my regular stream which happens Tuesday nights on YouTube.

I hit my 30k goal and just kept on rolling

So I’m back in the game. I can see the end and I am almost there. Just another couple of streams like that and I’ll win.

APRIL CAMP NANO 2024 UPDATE: The Muddy Middle

Greetings from the Muddy Middle.

If you were able to make my stream on Saturday, you’ll know I did manage to hit 10k that day despite an allergy headache and losing close to 2000 words.

This means I’m almost caught up to my NaNoWriMo goal of 50k. I will be happy when I reach 30k but I plan to push through as long as I can.
