This month, we’re discussing Creative Strength, but we start in a less fun place.
Survival.
This weeks theme? Made me want to throw things.
Tough Stuff
It’s been really hard around here lately. The struggle is real.
I debated putting this out. I don’t like to admit my vulnerabilities and I don’t want you to worry. I don’t like to miss or skip without notice. I don’t like telling the internet my problems. I prefer pretending everything is just fine, but even that has become a struggle.
I’m struggling with the words. With my message and purpose. With all the ins and outs of what it means to be me, day to day. With life and death and taxes (so to speak). I don’t know if I’m reaching you, but at the moment, I’m saying a lot of this for myself.
So, I persist.
It’s hard to know what to say when someone is struggling. Even harder when you’re the one struggling. It’s hard to know how to offer support when you need it, and hard to accept it maybe always. I know. I’ve been hard to talk to lately. It’s been hard to open up about anything.
Still, this week’s theme is a message I need to hear and maybe you do too:
When a door closes, look out for a window.
It’s not easy advice, and it’s not easy practice, but there it is:
A way out.
Another avenue.
A different choice or path or opportunity.
It’s there. I believe it. I may not be able to see it yet, but maybe we can help each other.
I quoted Julia Cameron earlier this week. She says every loss comes with a gain, and that was hard to say, but I believe that too.
I persist in believing. I’ve survived bad seasons and bad years before. I believe in my ability to survive this one. I believe my gains are coming.
That doesn’t make it easy.
But.
I persist.
Why?
Because quitting doesn’t make it easier.
Because 80-something year old me is watching and cheering me on because she knows so much more than I do. She knows I’ve got bigger things ahead of me and that sometimes I just might need a little reminder that I’m a badass.
